Another Year

I am stepping into yet another year of my life  

each year that has passed  

I have grown a little wiser  

through every failure and  

the rare taste of success  

some years have been storms  

raging against my skin  

others have been calm  

like a warm embrace  

but through it all  

I had my heart  

and my words  

people came and went  

like the tides of an ocean  

life happened in between  

and still  

I remained  

I held onto myself  

as everything else  

slipped away  

I know the journey ahead  

will not be easy  

but I believe  

I have what it takes  

to bring the best  

out of everything
